*ahem* *cough cough* now commencing attempt 992131, following the 992130 previous failed attempts, to regularly post onto this damned "live" journal, though actually more dead than live.. also partially an attempt to procrastinate on this latin essay i'm working on which isn't hard so much as tedious.. and emily just yelled at me for not working.. if she wasnt so cute, i would be mad at her..

siren music festival

went to the siren music festival today.. it was fun! even tho no one [except dave and patty at the very end] showed up to go with me.. i liked lots of the bands i saw.. the fiery furnaces, the electric six, and tv on the radio were all really good.. vue was pretty good too.. i liked the small bit of mission of burma that i saw.. death cab for cutie was ok, they didnt sound that good live.. someone who was standing near me said that i should go to one of their real shows, like indoors and with better sound equipment and that they normally sound a whole lot better.. oh well..

i am so pooped and sore and tired and ready to just collapse.. i was standing for 9 hours straight.. literally.. [ok, i did sit down for about 5 minutes on a curb in the middle sometime to call dave, but the rest of the time was all standing] and the sun was out in full force today.. i feel roasted and beat up.. but i guess it was worth it.. oh, and an unnecessary detail, i didnt go to the bathroom once in those 9 hours, actually it was close to 12 hours because it was after i got back to the port authority.. they had porta-potties but there were long lines there and they were charging $.25 for the other bathrooms.. so i decided to just hold it.. and i was successful.. even after three bottles of water.. the way i figured it was that if i consumed the water, then even if my pee builds up itll take the water it needed to hydrate me from urine and reduce my need to go to the bathroom.. and i guess it worked..

i need to see if i can find the music from those bands.. i didnt get a chance to see if i could buy their albums today, i bet i can order them online or something..

on friday night i went to the boston pops orchestra.. it was really good.. they played lots of holiday music and at the end they had a singalong so i was able to get all the holiday music out of my system once and for all.. the performance was really good.. i really enjoyed it..

tonight i went to a frat party.. DKE.. it was really good.. lots of people were there.. and the band there was awesome.. lots of singing and dancing.. i had a good time..

who wants to go see the trans siberian orchestra on 12/29 at njpac in newark? maybe student rush tickets which would $10 if available, otherwise ranging from $20 to $61.. i wanna go!!

thanks to everyone that ecouraged me to get better.. it helped alot.. i think ive avoided death, temporarily at least.. unfortunately now i have alot of work to do, not to mention finals coming up.. ick..

i registered for classes today.. im taking intro to biological anthropology 161, latin 102, great books 192, honors intro to philosophy 297, and ideas in honors - the world of math (seminar) 135.. fun fun fun.. im excited for next semester.. and cant wait for this one to end..

well, thanksgiving has come and gone.. i left ann arbor at abou 8:00pm on wed and arrived at home at about 5:00pm on thurs.. i left home at 3:00pm on sunday and got back to ann arbor at 10:00am monday.. total travel time: 40hrs.. hmm.. remind me never to do that again..

thanksgiving was ok.. good seeing people.. home was comfortable.. lots of food in the fridge..

2 weeks of madness till i go home!!!

woooooo!! amazing!! awesome!! phenomenal!!

todays game against ohio state university was soooo awesome.. it was the greatest football game ever.. there were over 112,000 people in attendence.. which is a NCAA record.. my roommates and i had really good seats because we got there really early and sorta just wandered down about 30 rows from our actual seats, nobody in the student section cares about what their tickets actually say anways.. after everyone started packing in, it was so crazy.. there was 112,000 people all packed together in the stadium all yelling and screaming and chanting and heckling the osu fans.. then after we won, we all rushed the field and it was completely covered with people.. and the entire field was packed with us all chanting "its great.. to be.. a michigan wolverine!" and other stuff like "pasadena" and "overrated" it was awesome!!

afterwards, i let my voice recover a little and then went out for sushi.. which tasted great! and ooh.. it was good..

wooo! im happy! i need to shower and sleep tho.. i gotta get up early tomorrow..

ack ack... i have a latin exam tomorrow that is going to kick my butt soooo badly... i have no clue what we've been doing for the past month... we've been learning about clauses and stuff and i dont even know what that is in english, how am i supposed to know this stuff in latin? ack.. and i dont know how to conjugate anything, decline anything, or translate anything.. im gonna die.. hmm.. well after tomorrow itll be smooth until thanksgiving..

boom! i just killed my comp sci project that is due on friday.. i sat down at around 9:00pm and programmed until 1:00am and now im done.. roar! that was oddly productive of me.. disturbingly even.. ill have to make up for my lack of procrastination by not doing anything tomorrow..

i want to come up with new and original.. something that no one has ever thought of before.. something that will solve some philosophical problem that has been unsolvable.. if anyone has any suggestions let me know!

so to recap a little of the past couple of days.. i went to see 2 one act operas by puccini.. suor angelica and gianni schicci.. they were really good.. gianni schicci was a comedy based on an episode from dante and it was really funny.. i liked it alot.. it also has the aria "o mio babbino caro" in it which was really cool to see what it was originally from..

i had some really good wings last night.. from a place called mister spots, supposedly the best in ann arbor and i would have to agree, tho i havent tried any others yet.. i shared 50 with two of my roommates.. good stuff..

i have sooo much latin homework to do.. and a latin exam this friday.. and i have no clue what we have been doing.. im going to do so badly.. ugh.. i guess i should get working on that..

i have done no work over the course of the past two days or so... not bad.. i mean im not complaining or anything.. its cool and all but i feel like im wasting alot of time.. hmm.. ive been watching jeopardy everyday.. twice a day.. once at 12:30 and once at 7:30.. of course they are different episodes and all but i think its kinda crazy.. im making my schedule for next semester so that it works around jeopardy.. ive even gotten my roommates into it.. i havent gone to college bowl in a while because it conflicts with like every other thing i need to do.. [coincendetally, it also conflicts with jeopardy] it kinda sucks because i dont go to any of the tournaments that the other quizbowl-ers from the academy go to because im so far away.. and we do travel kinda far to tournaments but we'll usually go to a closer regional one if there are multiple going on.. of course we'll be at the big tournaments like pennbowl and nationals which i intend to go to hopefully..

enough of this writing.. time to do some reading and then go to bed.. weeeeeee... i like going to bed.. if only i could go to bed more often for longer periods of time..

hmm.. im getting quite good at this procrastination thing.. im procrastinating right now even tho i dont really have any work to do.. i know doesnt seem quite possible but im doing it.. last night i was cleaning my desk and the bathroom in order to avoid work [the work that i dont really have that is].. ive spent alot of time listening to phish now and i think i like it.. i like the gamehendge stuff in particular, but all in all its some cool stuff.. ive moved around a little to oysterhead, which i listened to before but i think im looking at it with a new perspective now.. ive been also making these little nifty livejournal user pictures which i guess you can see if you are reading this from another journal.. i think im gonna make some more.. its a little difficult to get it to look right because im limiting myself to 64 by 64 pixels..

i need some source of income.. i mean i have one but i need to fill out these time sheets so that i can actually get money.. i havent been doing that thus i havent been getting any money.. i should probably do that now or soon.. weeee..

last night at around 4:00am, my roommate and i got to talking about music and stuff.. hes really into phish and was explaining it to me.. about how the instruments interacted to convey the feeling and messages.. it made alot of sense.. i think this was because i have been doing alot of very close literary analysis recently, looking at how individual words in a sentence interact with each other and stuff.. he played a couple of songs and i think i really felt what he was getting at.. i think that most of the music i have listened to in the past as been very clear and to the point in its message.. particularly the rock, its energy and power is right there in front of you.. but i think now that phish is much more deep and complex.. i feel like that it is the comparison of a sad trashy romance novel and an ancient greek tragedy.. sure, the emotion that you feel maybe more power and clear with the novel.. sure, you feel the sadness and the love in the book.. but there is obviously something more deep in the greek tragedy.. the images are much more complex and detailed.. the ideas may not hit you immediately and you need to work with them for a little bit before you can discern the true meaning.. but the end result is more meaningful and fufilling i think.. i have felt this way about the classical or orchestral pieces of the past but i never really thought about it in terms of modern music.. im now listening to some phish and trying to appreciate the beauty and ideas in it.. hopefully ill have some success..
